Past. Present. Future.
Hello!
My name is Katie
I'm a creative soul with a mind for fantastical adventure. When I'm not daydreaming, I'm working as an editor for BookTrib.com. Before that, I was studying creative writing and mass communication at UNCA. Originally from Dallas, TX, I moved to Appalachia to escape the heat and enjoy the mountains. But I long for the big city, so I'm Dallas-bound once again!
As an avid reader and aspiring writer, my favorite genres include fantasy, romance, literary fiction and feminist works. (I'm also a big fan of manga!) My favorite books include Madeline Miller's Circe, Colleen Houck's The Tiger's Curse series, and Nathanial Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter. Aside from reading and writing, my hobbies include yoga, photography, antique and clothes shopping, archery, and curling up with my cat, Oso, and dog, Circe, to watch a movie. I've seen every Marvel movie at least four times, but my favorite movie is the 2012 Les Misérables.

FEATURED PROJECTS

A CROWN OF LAURELS: A Short Story
Senior Creative Writing Project
In the classic Greek myth of Apollo and Daphne, Daphne was a wild young woman dedicated to living an independent life; however, she quickly becomes a passive victim within a story which centers more around the actions of men. This modern retelling changes that. Through a fragmented structure, I explore a nontraditional relationship between father and daughter, create circles of supportive female friendship, and change a legendary virgin goddess into a lesbian lover.

PRESERVING ASHEVILLE: An Investigative Series
Senior Mass Communication Project
As Asheville becomes more of a popular destination for those seeking a mountain escape, this project explores the problem of accommodating these new residents and tourists without damaging the historical and environmental integrity which draws them here. This series investigates the tension between local government agencies, preservation nonprofits, urban developers and residents as the city moves forward with its urban development plans.

"Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale."
